ANURADHAPURA

One of the ancient capitals of Sri Lanka, famous for its well-preserved ruins of ancient Lankan civilization

POLONNARUWA

The second most ancient of Sri Lanka's kingdoms, Polonnaruwa was first declared the capital city by King Vijayabahu I, who defeated the Chola invaders in 1070 CE to reunite the country once more under a local leader.

KANDY

English name for the city of Maha Nuvara (Senkadagalapura) in the centre of Sri Lanka. It is the capital of the Central Province and Kandy District.

SIGIRIYA

Sigiriya (Lion's rock) is an ancient rock fortress and castle/palace ruin situated in the central Matale District of Sri Lanka, surrounded by the remains of an extensive network of gardens, reservoirs, and other structures.

DAMBULLA

The city of Dambulla is situated in the Central Province of Sri Lanka, situated 148 km north-east of Colombo and 72 km north of Kandy.

GALLE

A town situated on the southwestern tip of Sri Lanka, 119 km from Colombo. Galle was known as Gimhathiththa (although Ibn Batuta in the 14th century refers to it as Qali) before the arrival of the Portuguese in the 16th century, when it was the main port on the island.

RAMBA VIHARA

Maha Nagakula was the capital of medieval Sri Lanka in 11th century AD. The Ramba Vihara was the temple of the Maha Nagakula city where a large number of artifacts have been found, leading to research studies on the new Southern Cultural Triangle encompassing Tissamaharama, Moneragala and Hambantota.

TISSAMAHARAMA

A town in south-eastern Sri Lanka. It used to be the capital of the Sinhalese kingdom of Ruhuna as early as the 3rd century B.C. Only few buildings from that period can still be seen today.
